Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully repelled an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists in Magonho community of Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, preventing what could have resulted in significant casualties and destruction.
A reliable security source disclosed the development to journalists in Sokoto on Sunday, stating that the incident occurred on June 4.
According to the source, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, one civilian sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter between the troops and the attackers.
The source attributed the successful operation to the vigilance and swift response of security personnel, noting that their timely intervention helped safeguard lives and property in the community.
He further emphasized that security agencies remain committed to protecting residents and urged community members to continue supporting ongoing security efforts through the provision of credible information.
In a related development, troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army also foiled a bandits’ attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Tidibale village, Isa Local Government Area of the state.
The security source revealed that the attack also occurred on June 4 and that troops successfully rescued two farmers who had been kidnapped by the bandits.
The rescued victims were subsequently taken to the General Hospital in Isa for medical attention and treatment.
“The swift response, professionalism and courage displayed by our military personnel averted what could have been a tragic incident and once again reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the lives and property of our people,” the source said.
He added that the attackers suffered significant losses during the military operations, while efforts to track down fleeing criminals and secure the affected areas remain ongoing.
The source called on residents to continue supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in their fight against insecurity, stressing that cooperation from local communities remains crucial to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
He also reiterated that proactive security measures are being sustained across vulnerable communities and urged farmers and other residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the authorities.
