From Mu’awiya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Katsina State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted water supply across the state through the regular provision of diesel and water treatment chemicals to all water treatment plants.
The State Commissioner for Water Supply, Alhaji Mannir Ayuba Sullubawa, made the pledge during a meeting with officers in charge of various water supply schemes in the state.
He stated that the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda remains committed to completing all ongoing water projects and rehabilitating existing facilities to ensure that no community suffers from water scarcity.
According to the commissioner, the government is also working towards the completion of Phase 1B of the Zobe Dam Water Project, which had been abandoned for about 50 years by previous administrations.
Sullubawa warned officials against the diversion or misuse of diesel and water treatment chemicals supplied to them, stressing that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action.
He also directed all officers to ensure that water tariffs collected from consumers are promptly remitted into the government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA).
“You must ensure that all tariffs collected are remitted to the TSA. Diversion or misuse of diesel and water treatment chemicals will not be tolerated,” the commissioner warned.
He assured the officers of the government’s support and encouragement to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
He further urged them to forward any complaints, observations or recommendations that could help improve water supply services in the state.
During the meeting, the officers held extensive discussions with the commissioner and the Permanent Secretary of the ministry on measures aimed at enhancing water production and distribution across Katsina State.
