The Sokoto State Government has approved the procurement of assorted fertilisers, improved seeds and agrochemicals worth N1.652 billion to support wet-season farming and enhance agricultural productivity across the state.
The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Sokoto.
According to the government, the agricultural inputs will complement those earlier procured by local government councils and ensure that farmers receive the supplies at the onset of the rainy season to maximise yields during the current cropping season.
The Council also approved the purchase of 1,200 Daylong motorcycles valued at N1.609 billion for distribution to civil servants under a loan scheme, fulfilling a pledge made by Governor Ahmed Aliyu during this year’s May Day celebration.
