From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed that sustainable development cannot thrive in the absence of peace and security, stressing that a stable environment remains the backbone of economic growth and social progress.
Governor Buni stated this through the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje, while receiving two Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) representing the North-East Geo-Political Zone during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Damaturu.
The governor described the visit as a reflection of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police to strengthening security operations, enhancing cooperation with state governments, and improving the effectiveness of security institutions across the country.
He noted that security remains a top priority of his administration, as it provides the foundation for development, investment, and the wellbeing of citizens.
“Without peace, there won’t be meaningful development. Lasting peace, economic growth, and social progress can only thrive in an atmosphere of safety and stability,” Buni said.
Governor Buni commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their sacrifices, dedication, and commitment towards protecting the unity and stability of the country.
He explained that the Yobe State Government has continued to maintain a strong partnership with security agencies through operational support, improved security infrastructure, coordination, and other measures aimed at strengthening security operations across the state.
Buni assured that his administration would continue to provide the necessary support to security agencies to sustain the peace achieved and guarantee the safety of lives and property in the state.
Speaking earlier, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the North-East, DIG Zakaria Fera, appreciated the support and cooperation of the Yobe State Government towards security agencies.
He expressed confidence that the ongoing security strategies would further enhance peace and stability in Yobe and the wider North-East region.
DIG Fera said the visit was part of the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to assess security situations and evaluate the security architecture across the North-East.
“Yobe people have suffered enough, and we say enough is enough. We are determined to take the battle to criminals and ensure citizens enjoy peace and security,” he stated.
The delegation included DIG Ibrahim Zango, Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Research and Planning, the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, and other senior police officers.
Government officials at the meeting included representatives of the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, the Head of Service, Commissioners, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Permanent Secretaries, among other top government functionaries.
