Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has secured 150 trucks of fertilizer for distribution to genuine farmers across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and enhance food security.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday, 25 June 2026.
Governor Yusuf made the announcement during the presentation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Certificate of Return to the winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election, Hon. Shuaibu Rabiu, at the Government House, Kano.
The Governor said the fertilizer would be sold to farmers at highly subsidized rates alongside other agricultural inputs to support farming activities and increase crop production across the state.
He explained that the distribution would be carried out through the offices of District Heads in all Local Government Areas to ensure transparency and prevent the politicization of the exercise.
Governor Yusuf warned Local Government Council Chairmen against diverting the distribution process to council secretariats, stressing that the programme is specifically designed to benefit genuine farmers.
Meanwhile, the Governor disclosed that his administration has concluded plans to provide 484 mini ambulances—one for each ward in Kano State—to facilitate the transportation of pregnant women to healthcare facilities.
According to him, each ward will receive one ambulance to be managed by community leaders to ensure prompt response to maternal health emergencies.
The Governor said the initiative is aimed at reducing maternal mortality, improving access to healthcare services, and protecting pregnant women from avoidable complications during childbirth.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the living conditions of women and youths through targeted empowerment and social intervention programmes.
He urged women and young people across the state to take advantage of opportunities available through the state’s 24 specialized institutions by registering for and participating in government empowerment initiatives.
