The Sokoto State Government has dissociated itself from the activities of a magician popularly known as Mai Shaho, following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing him burying a live goat while claiming that a governorship candidate of a political party in the state would not be accepted by the electorate.
In a statement issued late Friday by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Government House Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, the government said it has no connection whatsoever with the individual or any of his activities.
The statement stressed that the APC-led administration neither supports nor endorses the activities of magicians, regardless of their political affiliation.
According to the government, it has no association with, or involvement in, the activities depicted in the video and will not tolerate actions that are contrary to the values, laws, and religious sensitivities of the people of Sokoto State.
The statement emphasized that Sokoto is a predominantly Muslim state whose people uphold the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his companions, and the legacy of Sheikh Usman bin Fodiyo.
“The State Government will not condone any activity that is contrary to these cherished values,” the statement said.
The government advised individuals engaging in activities that violate the teachings of Islam to desist immediately.
It also called on the Sokoto State Hisbah Board to take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
