Veteran journalist and media advocate, Comrade Florence Oluohu, has called on journalists in Cross River State to educate the public on the importance of government policies and discourage individuals from undermining official directives.
Oluohu made the call during the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council Congress held in March 2026.
The resolution was contained in a statement signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Archibong Bassey, and the Assistant Secretary, Comrade Kingsley Agim.
She emphasized that journalists have a crucial responsibility to promote public understanding of government programmes while upholding professionalism, accuracy, and ethical reporting.
The Congress also called on the Cross River State Ministry of Environment to proactively identify and remove ageing trees along major roads to prevent accidents and avert possible loss of lives.
Members further expressed concern over the continued violation of the state’s ban on open grazing, noting that cattle and their herders still graze freely on public lawns within the Calabar metropolis and on residents’ farmlands.
The Congress urged the relevant authorities to enforce existing laws to protect public spaces, farmlands, and the safety of residents across the state.
