A member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Tarauni Local Government Area, Kabiru Dahiru Sule ADS, has inaugurated a new 24-hour maternity centre in Gyadi-Gyadi Arewa Ward to improve access to maternal healthcare for residents.
The lawmaker also commenced a two-day free medical outreach for residents of the ward as part of efforts to support women and other vulnerable members of the community.
The development was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of Tarauni Local Government Area, Adamu Iliyasu Hotoro.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sule said the maternity centre was established in response to the healthcare needs of residents and in fulfilment of a commitment he made during his election campaign.
“I provided this maternity centre after considering the healthcare needs of the people of the constituency and as part of the promises I made to them during the electioneering period,” he said.
The lawmaker said the facility would operate round the clock to reduce the burden on residents, particularly pregnant women who might otherwise have to travel long distances to access maternity services.
He said the free medical outreach, which began on Friday and will end on Saturday, was being undertaken in collaboration with the APC candidate for the Tarauni Federal Constituency, Nasir Bala Aminu Ja’oji.
Sule pledged to sustain efforts to attract development projects to Tarauni, particularly interventions targeted at women and youths.
He also thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore, the Tarauni Local Government Chairman, Ahmed Ibrahim Muhammad Sekure, Ja’oji and other APC leaders for their support and cooperation.
Speaking at the event, Ja’oji commended Sule for what he described as his commitment to providing development projects across the wards of Tarauni.
“I commend Hon. Kabiru Dahiru Sule for his determination to provide projects that respond to the needs of our people. These are the kinds of interventions that directly affect the lives of residents,” Ja’oji said.
The APC candidate, who is also the Director-General of the City Boys organisation in Kano State, pledged to continue supporting the lawmaker’s efforts to attract development projects to the constituency.
He said Sule’s interventions reflected the development-oriented approach of Governor Yusuf and President Bola Tinubu.
The Tarauni Local Government Chairman, who was represented by his deputy, Khalid Ayuba, said the new maternity centre would help pregnant women access healthcare closer to their communities.
He urged health workers at the facility to maintain proper hygiene and ensure punctuality in accordance with directives of the state Ministry of Health.
The APC Chairman in Tarauni, Sani Usman S.A., and the party’s Kano North leader and Public Relations Officer, Auwal Soja, also commended the lawmaker for his efforts to provide infrastructure and other interventions across the local government.
The event was attended by government officials, political leaders, health workers and community representatives, including the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Consumer Protection Council, Dr Ibrahim Garba Muhammad; the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Public Complaints Commission, Abdullahi Sabo Abubakar; the Commissioner of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Hajiya Zuwaira; and representatives of the World Health Organisation.
Others included the Special Adviser on Community Development, Auwal Barde; Special Adviser on State Libraries, Auwal Zinariya; representative of the Sardaunan Kano, Yakubu Yarima; APC chieftain Sadiq Sugaba Jarman Wudil; former PDP member Ado Baso; DG, Small and Medium Enterprise Agency, Nasir Mansir; and the lawmaker representing Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, Shu’aibu Rabiu.
The inauguration and medical outreach are expected to strengthen access to basic maternal healthcare in Gyadi-Gyadi Arewa and complement existing health services available to residents of the area.
