The Federal Government adopted the National Strategy Vision 2020 in 2009, aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerians. Improving access to sustainable water supply services remains one of the priorities in the urban water sector across Kano, Plateau, Enugu and Ondo states.
The Managing Director of the Kano State Water Board, Engr. Garba Ahmed Bichi, said the two-day Project Coordination and Review Workshop was part of the annual project review process, which is conducted twice a year.
He noted that the previous session was held in Ondo State.
Speaking with our correspondent in Jos on Monday, shortly after the opening of the two-day workshop, Bichi said the purpose was to review and assess the current status of ongoing projects across the four participating states.
According to him, the workshop was aimed at identifying challenges, evaluating progress and determining the future direction of the projects.
He said Kano State was making significant progress with the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) project, whose implementation had been divided into two distinct phases.
Bichi said the first phase was nearing completion, with performance levels ranging between 90 and 100 per cent, adding that the project was currently transitioning into the infrastructure phase.
The Managing Director further explained that once the infrastructure components were completed, water distribution would be expanded to various communities across the state.
He said the review workshop was not limited to Plateau State, but covered projects being implemented across all four participating states.
“Normally, when we come to this kind of programme, it is simply to review the current status of the projects ongoing in all four states. We reviewed them last April, and this review will not affect Plateau State alone; all the other states will also have their projects reviewed.
“From there, we identify our challenges, assess our progress and decide on what comes next,” he said.
