The Chairman of the Cross River State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Imam Kabeer, has urged Nigerians to pray for peace, stability and unity in the country as the nation marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
He made the call while speaking with journalists shortly after a gathering of Christian and Muslim religious leaders at Millennium Park in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
Imam Kabeer stressed the importance of maintaining Nigeria’s unity and promoting peaceful coexistence among citizens regardless of their religious backgrounds or affiliations.
He also called on Nigerians to pray for the country and its leaders for peace, stability, hitch-free political activities and peaceful conduct of upcoming national elections.
At the event, Triumph Newspapers correspondent in Cross River State, Comrade Musa Muhammad Kutama, was among journalists honoured with an award for excellence and accuracy in journalism.
The award recognised his contribution to accurate reporting and journalism that promotes peace and harmony.
Imam Kabeer commended Kano State Government for establishing Triumph Newspapers, describing the medium as one that has maintained accuracy in its editorial content and reportage.
Speaking further, the cleric urged journalists to continue promoting peace, unity and responsible journalism through accurate and factual reporting.
Responding, Triumph correspondent Musa Muhammad Kutama said the recognition was also a reflection of the guidance and commitment of the newspaper’s Acting Managing Director and Editor, Muhammad Hamisu.
He said the management had consistently encouraged journalists to report facts and truth accurately while ensuring that their reports contribute to peace and harmony.
According to him, Triumph Newspapers remains committed to justice, accuracy and responsible journalism.
