Barrister Kashim Musa Tumsah and supporters of the KMT Movement have reaffirmed their commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and expressed strong support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima in the forthcoming 2027 elections.
The position followed a high-level meeting of representatives of various KMT support groups from Yobe State held in Kaduna on Saturday, October 3, 2026, where members reviewed the political situation and considered the movement’s options ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on behalf of the KMT Movement, the group said its commitment to remain within the APC was firm, stressing that ensuring the success and re-election of President Tinubu, Vice-President Shettima and the APC-led administration remained a paramount and unwavering objective.
The meeting also resolved to explore available political opportunities and forms of cooperation while maintaining the movement’s position within the APC. Leaders of the various groups and sections were directed to return to their members and followers for further consultations on the next steps ahead of the forthcoming governorship campaigns and elections.
The statement further said the movement would await the outcome of ongoing court cases challenging the APC governorship primary in Yobe State before taking a final position on the governorship contest, stressing that the interests of Yobe State and its people would remain the central consideration in determining the way forward.
Importantly, the meeting was fully represented by the various groups supporting Barr. Kashim Musa Tumsah, who emerged as one of the prominent contenders in the May 2026 APC governorship primary in Yobe State.
Their participation underscored the continued political relevance of Tumsah and his supporters in the unfolding political calculations in the state.
The development effectively puts Tumsah’s political camp on record as remaining firmly aligned with the APC and the Tinubu-Shettima presidency, while leaving room for further consultations on the governorship race as the legal and political processes unfold.
The KMT Movement said its various leaders would report back to the movement’s secretariat within seven days after consulting their members and followers on the next political steps.
