The Head of Service of Kano State has reaffirmed that education remains an absolute priority of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing it as a potent tool for achieving sustainable socio-economic development.
The Head of Service stated this in a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Rukayya Uba Sulaiman, and made available to journalists.
She spoke during the celebration of World Teachers’ Day 2026 in Kano, where she commended teachers for their invaluable contributions to human capital development and the future of the state.
She noted that the administration’s commitment to the education sector was reflected in its budgetary allocations and ongoing interventions aimed at strengthening teaching and learning across the state.
According to her, teachers occupy a strategic position in the development of society, stressing that meaningful socio-economic progress cannot be achieved without a strong and effective education system.
The Secretary to the Kano State Government (SSG), Umar Farouq Ibrahim, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the event, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to creating the necessary policy environment and institutional support for the effective implementation of education programmes.
He acknowledged the critical role of teachers in translating government policies and investments in education into improved learning outcomes, urging stakeholders to work collectively towards addressing the challenges confronting the sector.
The SSG commended teachers for their dedication and service to the state, assuring them of the government’s continued engagement with relevant stakeholders to strengthen the education system.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education in Kano State.
He noted that investment in teachers, infrastructure, learning materials and other educational resources remained essential to achieving sustainable progress.
Makoda said the ministry would continue to collaborate with teachers, school administrators, parents and other stakeholders to improve standards and create a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.
The Commissioner further called on teachers to remain committed to professionalism and excellence, stressing that their role extends beyond classroom instruction to shaping the character, skills and future prospects of young people.
The World Teachers’ Day celebration brought together government officials, education stakeholders, teachers and other guests to recognise and appreciate the vital contribution of teachers to the development of Kano State and the nation.
The celebration also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the collective responsibility of government and stakeholders towards building an education system capable of producing knowledgeable, skilled and responsible citizens.
