Kano State Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, has pledged government support for the proposed upgrade of a Qur’anic school in Bichi Local Government Area to a Junior Secondary School.
Garo made the commitment on Sunday while representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Qur’anic graduation ceremony of students of Madarasatul Ta’awini Ummul Litahafizul Qur’an in Bichi.
He said the state government would consider the completion of an unfinished classroom block, recruitment of additional teachers and the proposed transition of the school from Islamiyya to Junior Secondary School.
Garo, however, said the proposed upgrade would be reviewed and considered based on advice from the Kano State Ministry of Education.
The deputy governor congratulated the graduating students and their parents on the successful completion and memorisation of the Holy Qur’an.
He urged the graduates to uphold the teachings of the Qur’an in their daily lives by demonstrating honesty, trustworthiness, respect and compassion.
Garo also urged the students to respect their parents and teachers while pursuing Western education alongside their Qur’anic studies.
He commended the parents for supporting their children’s Qur’anic education and praised the teachers for their role in imparting religious knowledge.
During the ceremony, Garo unveiled a newly completed classroom block constructed and donated to the school by the family of the late Alhaji Sani Buji Bichi.
He expressed the state government’s appreciation to the family, describing the facility as a lasting legacy of the late Bichi that would continue to benefit the family and the wider community.
Garo also commended Abubakar Abba Abubakar Bichi for establishing the school and providing classrooms before becoming a legislator.
The deputy governor further announced a donation of N2m to the school management and N20,000 each to the graduating students.
The Executive Chairman of Bichi Local Government Area, Hamza Sule Maifata, commended the family of the late Sani Buji Bichi for supporting the development of the school.
The school principal, Sani Nuhu, presented the institution’s requests to the state government during the ceremony.
