The Senator representing Kano South in the 10th Senate, Suleiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, OFR, has distributed 16 vehicles to party chairmen, 400 motorcycles to APC local government executives, and 600 standard and industrial sewing machines to 200 tailors under his 12th empowerment programme since assuming office in 2023.
The programme underscores the Senator’s commitment to human capital development, grassroots empowerment, economic independence and sustainable livelihoods across Kano South.
Under the tailoring empowerment scheme, each of the 200 beneficiaries will receive three sewing machines: two standard sewing machines and one industrial sewing machine.

The initiative is designed to strengthen small businesses, promote vocational skills, support apprenticeships and create employment opportunities within local communities.
The Kano State APC Chairman, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, attended the event and commended Senator Kawu Sumaila for his commitment to development and empowerment across the district. He also called on constituents to support the Senator’s re-election, emphasising the importance of sustaining his development initiatives and effective representation.
Speaking at the event, Senator Kawu described the occasion as a significant milestone in his commitment to translating public trust into tangible development, economic opportunities and improved livelihoods.
He acknowledged the economic and developmental challenges confronting the country over the past three years, noting that he had remained focused on delivering meaningful interventions despite the difficulties.
The Senator outlined achievements across several sectors, including security, legislative representation, road infrastructure, agriculture, water supply, education and healthcare.
On security, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to protect lives and property across the district. He also recalled the recent recognition of local vigilantes for their courage and contribution to securing Falgore Forest in Doguwa Local Government Area.
Regarding legislative representation, Senator Kawu stated that he had continued to use the Senate floor to advance bills and motions addressing economic development, security, infrastructure and the welfare of Nigerians, particularly the people of Kano South.

On infrastructure, he cited the construction and rehabilitation of roads and bridges, drainage interventions, and the repair of potholes and erosion-affected areas.
In agriculture, he highlighted the distribution of farming machinery, tools, improved seeds and fertiliser to support agricultural productivity and strengthen food security across the district.
To address water scarcity, the Senator noted that his interventions included the provision of motorised, solar-powered and hand-pump boreholes in various communities.
In education, he cited the construction and rehabilitation of schools, the provision of teaching and learning materials, and educational sponsorship for more than 1,000 students in tertiary and secondary institutions.
In the health sector, he noted that primary and secondary healthcare facilities had been renovated and equipped with medical tools to improve access to quality healthcare services.
Senator Kawu emphasised that the achievements recorded so far represented the foundation of his first term in office, expressing confidence that sustained commitment and cooperation would enable further progress across Kano South.
Acknowledging that no representative could personally meet every individual request, he assured constituents of his determination to ensure that the dividends of democracy reached every corner of the district.
He also called on APC members to embrace unity, patience, tolerance and mutual respect, stressing that internal solidarity was essential to strengthening the party and achieving shared political and developmental objectives.
The Senator expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his leadership and economic vision, as well as to the Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, and other stakeholders for their cooperation and support.
He concluded by thanking the people of Kano South for their patience, understanding and continued support, assuring them of his unwavering commitment to their welfare and development.
