The Kano State Government has assured residents of Danbatta, Minjibir and Makoda Local Government Areas that potable drinking water supply will be fully restored by next week.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr. Dahiru Hashim, gave the assurance shortly after inspecting the Thomas Water Treatment Plant in Danbatta Local Government Area, following the resumption of operations at the facility.
Dr. Hashim expressed optimism that the commencement of operations would significantly improve access to clean and safe drinking water across the three benefiting local government areas.
He disclosed that the treatment plant, which had been producing approximately 650,000 litres of water daily for decades, would have its production capacity increased to one million litres per day within the next few days.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to addressing water supply challenges and ensuring that residents have access to adequate and potable drinking water.
Speaking during the inspection, the Managing Director of the Kano State Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (KASSTOWA), Engineer Sani Bala Danbatta, traced the history of the treatment plant to 1976, when it was established to provide rural communities with access to potable water and support irrigation farming activities in the surrounding areas.
Engineer Danbatta called on members of the public to remain vigilant in safeguarding government facilities against vandalism. He urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr. Dahiru Hashim, for their commitment to improving water supply infrastructure across the state.
The Managing Director further pledged the agency’s continued dedication and support towards ensuring the successful implementation of the government’s objectives in the water sector.
It could be recalled that, in fulfilment of one of his campaign promises made to the people of Kano State in 2023, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf pledged to ensure the provision of potable drinking water across every nook and cranny of the state.
This commitment informed the establishment of the Kano State Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (KASSTOWA) on 24th July 2026 (9th Safar 1448 AH), as part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen water supply services, particularly in rural communities and small towns across the state.
