From Maawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Katsina State Council condemned the kidnapping of two members of correspondents and some members of their families yesterday in Kaduna state.
A statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the chapel, Yusuf Ibrahim and Zubairu Idris, respectively, stressed the need for all tiers of government to intensify efforts in addressing the insecurity.
“The abduction of the correspondents of The Nation Newspapers and Blueprint Newspapers together with their family members at their residences in the Danhono area of Kaduna metropolis, further revealed the magnitude of the problem.
“That emphasized the urgent need for all the security agencies to continue to do more in securing the lives and property of the innocent people.
“We are calling on the government and the concerned authorities to hasten taking measures that would assist in rescuing all the victims unhurt,” the statement said.
The chapel further advised the people of the country to continue to pray to the Almighty Allah to bring an end to the kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling and other criminal acts.
While praying for the safety of their abducted colleagues and their safe return from wherever they are, the statement further urged working journalists to be security conscious in the discharge of their duties.
