Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has implemented, and the payment of N70,000 for August 2024 Salary has been computed with the approved National Minimum Wage.
Fintiri approved the payment of the new minimum wage because some governments position that states might not afford to pay the approved wage.
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is at the top of the list of first governors who have perfected the payment of the new minimum wage and are ahead of the Federal Government in the implementation of the national pay package.
Reacting to the development, the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, said that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has proved to be a Labour-friendly governor, having the interest and welfare of the state civil servants at heart.
He commended the governor for opening the floor for others to emulate.
In an interview about the National Minimum Wage by Gov Fintiri, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe confirmed the implementation and will pay N70 000 wages for workers in the state.
When called for a closed-door meeting with the Governor, he never knew it was going to be a national issue Governor Fintiri called them for, but after saying that in order not to disappoint the labour union, there was no option but to accept the offer. Since he has been paying salaries since 24th August, by next week he will pay local govt minimum wage
He stated that local govt workers will enjoy the new minimum wage by the end of August.
He revealed further that there was no preparedness when the Governor called him, but without further delay, he mobilized his people and had a closed-door meeting with him, though there was no prior notice he (the Governor) said he was going to implement the wage in other not to disappoint his members he then answered.
