A governorship aspirant in Adamawa State, Comrade Mustapha Salihu, has pledged to work closely with traditional institutions across the state to address insecurity if elected governor in 2027.
Salihu made the promise during his statewide consultation tour to Michika and Madagali Local Government Areas, where he met with community leaders, party stakeholders, youth groups and traditional rulers as part of efforts to build political support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The immediate past National Vice Chairman (North-East) of the APC and governorship hopeful said that if elected, he would consolidate on the achievements of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture and youth empowerment.
He noted that as a professional lawyer, political analyst and security expert, he possesses the experience needed to contribute meaningfully towards ensuring peace and security in the state, particularly in the northern part of Adamawa bordering the Sambisa Forest, a known hideout of Boko Haram insurgents.
According to him, traditional institutions have not been given the enabling environment to operate optimally despite their strategic roles in conflict resolution, security management and social mobilisation.
Salihu assured that his administration would work closely with emirs, chiefs and district heads to strengthen local governance structures and improve community participation in decision-making processes.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, for efforts being made to address security challenges in the country.
He expressed optimism that with the support of the Federal Government under the APC platform, more democratic dividends would be delivered to the people through job creation and poverty alleviation programmes.
Speaking at the palace of the Ptil Madagali, Salihu described the traditional institution as a vital pillar in maintaining peace, preserving culture and promoting grassroots development.
He stressed that governments can only succeed when traditional leaders are fully involved in policy implementation and community engagement.
In his remarks, the paramount ruler of Michika, Prof. Luka Gadiga, expressed appreciation for the visit and urged Salihu to prioritise youth empowerment and job creation as part of efforts to reduce insecurity in the state.
Also speaking, the Ptil Madagali, Alhaji Ali Danburam, represented by Alhaji Mustapha Sinusi, expressed confidence in Salihu and encouraged him to build on the legacy of Governor Fintiri while intensifying efforts to tackle insecurity in the state.
The Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, described Salihu as a grassroots politician and credible aspirant capable of leading the state.
He called on traditional leaders and residents to support Salihu’s ambition.
While interacting with party officials in the two local government areas, Salihu promised to create more opportunities for party members and solicited their support and cooperation towards achieving his governorship ambition.
