From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Executive Chairman of Sokoto South Local Government Area, Alhaji Ya’u Muhammad Danda, has received a prominent political activist and Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rijiyar Dorawa ‘A’ Ward, Alhaji Aminu Shala, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Alhaji Aminu Shala, who also served as Chairman of the Sokoto South ADC Ward Chairmen Forum, formally announced his defection to the APC during a gathering attended by party leaders, government officials, and stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Alhaji Ya’u Muhammad Danda described Shala’s return to the APC as a significant political gain for the party.
He noted that the defecting politician is a committed grassroots mobiliser with considerable political influence and experience.
According to Danda, Shala’s departure represents a major loss to the ADC and a boost to the APC’s growing support base in Sokoto South Local Government Area.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Aminu Rijiya, highlighted the political significance of Shala’s return, particularly in Rijiyar Dorawa ‘A’ Ward, where he said the politician enjoys substantial support and influence.
Explaining the reasons behind his decision to leave the ADC, Alhaji Aminu Shala said his commitment to the development of Sokoto South and the state at large informed his move.
He cited the appointments given to indigenes of Sokoto South Local Government by the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, as well as the various developmental projects being executed across the state.
Shala stated that these achievements convinced him to join the APC, popularly known as “Nasara,” to contribute to the administration’s developmental agenda.
The event was attended by the APC Chairman of Sokoto South, Malam Hayatu Muhammad; the Deputy Chairman of Sokoto South Local Government, Hon. Faruk Garba Soka; the Sub-Treasurer of Sokoto State, Malam Aminu Sani Liman; elders of Rijiyar Dorawa ‘A’ Ward; local government executives; politicians; and members of the business community.
