A veteran photojournalist, Malam Umar Usman Iyale, has been abducted by suspected bandits in Kaduna State.
Iyale was kidnapped on Monday night at his residence in Danhonu II community, Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which occurred around 9pm, has sparked concern among residents, particularly due to the journalist’s advanced age and reported health challenges.
Eyewitnesses said the armed men stormed Iyale’s home, demanded money and took him away after he was unable to meet their demands.
Confirming the incident, the Kaduna State Police Command said an investigation had commenced, assuring that efforts were ongoing to secure his safe release.
The abduction has renewed concerns over insecurity in Danhonu II, coming months after two journalists were abducted in the same community in July 2024.
Residents have called on security agencies and the government to intensify measures to curb the rising cases of kidnapping in the area.
