From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Professor Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, has been hailed as a transformative and visionary leader.
The commendation was made by Professor Y.Y. Deen during a paper presentation titled “Transformative Leadership”, delivered at a send-forth ceremony organized by the university in honor of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Deen, a staff member of Federal University Dutse and visiting lecturer at Federal University Dutsin-Ma, was introduced as a versatile and internationally respected scholar, as well as a mentor to Prof. Bichi.
In his presentation, Prof. Deen defined leadership as “a concept by which a person influences others to accomplish objectives and directs an organization in a way that fosters coherence, productivity, and purpose — ultimately transforming it into a great institution driven by a shared vision.”
He added, “That is what makes a transformative leader. And believe me, by the time I conclude this paper, you will all agree that this definition perfectly describes our outgoing Vice-Chancellor.”
Prof. Deen further described Prof. Bichi as a visionary leader who laid a strong foundation for the university, particularly in the area of infrastructure development — efforts that, he noted, will serve the institution for generations to come.
He emphasized that transformative leaders are those who inspire and motivate others to exceed expectations for the benefit of both their followers and the organizations they lead.
Prof. Deen praised Prof. Bichi for transforming Federal University Dutsin-Ma into an ICT-driven environment that supports effective teaching, learning, and research.
He highlighted the enabling environment created under Bichi’s leadership, which has significantly advanced the university’s academic and research capacities.
In conclusion, Prof. Deen stated that Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi exemplifies transformative leadership not only within Federal University Dutsin-Ma but also across Nigeria’s and the global academic community.
Through strategic planning and a commitment to sustainable development, Prof. Bichi, he said, has driven continuous growth, achievement, and excellence.
