As part of efforts to generate income and reduce unemployment, Bindawa Local Government in Katsina State has distributed empowerment items and cash assistance to widows, butchers, and party members in the area.
The items distributed included 300 grinding machines, spaghetti-making machines, sewing machines, and motorcycles.
Speaking at the event, Governor Dikko Umar Radda commended the council for initiating the empowerment programme, noting that it will help reduce unemployment and improve family livelihoods.
“This move will not only reduce unemployment but also enhance the status of families across our communities. I commend Bindawa Council for this initiative and urge other local governments to follow suit,” Radda said.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring financial autonomy for local governments to enable them to execute projects that improve living standards, especially in rural areas. The governor advised the beneficiaries not to sell the items but to use them to generate sustainable income.
Earlier, the Chairman of Bindawa Local Government, Badaru Musa Giremawa, explained that this was the seventh empowerment programme carried out by the council.
He disclosed that 300 butchers in the area would each receive ₦500,000 alongside meat pans to boost their businesses.
“We have continued to invest in empowerment programmes because we believe they directly touch the lives of our people. This initiative is designed to strengthen economic activities and uplift vulnerable groups, especially widows and small-scale traders,” Giremawa said.
He further revealed that the council had provided official vehicles to the APC chairman, liaison officer, media assistant, and council secretary, while 22 motorcycles were distributed to elected councilors to aid in carrying out their duties.
According to him, the council has also executed various projects in the areas of water supply, road construction, and school building, among others.
