From Atiku Sarki, Abuja
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has pledged to establish a new Customs Area Command at the Snake Island Integrated Free Zone (SIIFZ).
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, following the comptroller-General’s recent official visit to the facility.
Adeniyi expressed satisfaction with the level of investment on the island and commended Nigerdock—the maritime and logistics company operating the SIIFZ—for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
He revealed that the service is in the final stages of documentation for setting up a dedicated command at the Free Zone, a move expected to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen regulatory oversight.
“We are just at the stage of finalising all documentation, and I am very confident that by my next visit, I will be received by a Customs Area Controller,” the CGC stated.
Adeniyi emphasised the importance of collaboration between Customs and private sector operators in achieving national economic objectives.
“We are looking forward to a symbiotic relationship—one that will benefit the Nigeria Customs Service, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and Nigerdock as a corporate entity,” he added.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of SIIFZ, Semiu Akorede, expressed appreciation for the support of the Customs Service and noted the significance of the CGC’s visit to the zone’s operational advancement.
“Your presence here today will add immense value. We have enjoyed the support of Customs officers currently working with us, as well as those who visit for specific operations. I can confirm that our relationship has been smooth and without conflict,” Akorede said.
“The consolidation of Customs activities, which we are advocating for, will help ensure seamless operations going forward,” he concluded.
