A 24-hour dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State following a violent communal clash that left the communities of Shomo and Wurkum in shock.
The Executive Chairperson of the council, Virginia Baba Bambur, announced the curfew in a statement on Monday, describing the measure as necessary to protect lives and property while authorities work to stabilize the situation.
Bambur said the curfew, effective from December 1, 2025, will remain in force until further notice. “All movement and commercial activities across the affected communities, including the Local Government headquarters, are suspended as authorities work to restore peace,” she added.
Security agencies operating within the area—including the Military, Police, Civil Defence, DSS, and Immigration Service—have been directed to enforce the order and ensure full compliance.
The curfew follows renewed clashes between Shomo and Wurkum communities, which resulted in the destruction of property worth millions of naira. Last week, troops of the 6 Brigade in Taraba neutralized four suspected terrorists in the area, highlighting the ongoing security challenges.
The violence erupted barely a week after the newly elected chairperson of the council was sworn in by Governor Agbu Kefas. Authorities have appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as peace efforts continue.
