The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, Rashid B. Afegbua, has certified 712 newly trained corporals and constables following the successful completion of an intensive Musketry and Weapons Handling Training Programme at the 11 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Calabar.
The training, conducted in three batches from June 1 to 19, 2026, brought together officers from the state’s three senatorial districts.
It forms part of the strategic vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to strengthen the operational capacity of police personnel through continuous, standardized and professional training.
During the certification ceremony, the newly trained officers demonstrated their proficiency in weapon stripping and handling, tactical formations, combat manoeuvres and obstacle crossing, highlighting the Command’s commitment to building a disciplined, highly skilled and operationally ready police workforce.
The event was attended by the Cross River State Commissioner for Information, Erasmus Ekpang, the Chairmen of Calabar South and Calabar Municipality Local Government Areas, senior police officers, heads of security agencies and other government officials, underscoring the importance of continuous capacity building and inter-agency collaboration in promoting public safety.
Addressing the officers, CP Afegbua stressed that the responsible and lawful use of firearms must always be guided by discipline, sound judgment, respect for human rights and the rule of law.
He urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, fairness and accountability, noting that every interaction with members of the public is an opportunity to strengthen confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner also commended the Department of Operations, the Commander of the 11 PMF Squadron, instructors and facilitators for the successful execution of the programme.
He congratulated the 712 officers and encouraged them to remain committed to excellence, discipline and selfless service in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
He reaffirmed that the Cross River State Police Command remains committed to continuous capacity building, operational excellence and professional policing in ensuring the safety and security of all residents of the state.
