From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Nigeria Customs Service in Katsina State has intercepted illicit drugs valued at over N692m along the Kongolam border and other communities in the state.
The Area Controller, Comptroller Abba Aji Idris, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Tuesday.
He said the drugs were concealed in two private vehicles, adding that one suspect was arrested during the operation and would be prosecuted after preliminary investigations.
“This is the largest seizure in the history of the command. These drugs, if not intercepted, would have harmed millions of Nigerians,” Aji said.
According to him, the confiscated items included 14 cartons of Tramadol worth N28m, Frabamalin capsules valued at N650m, and cannabis worth N14m.
The comptroller explained that the drugs were cleverly concealed in vehicles designed to appear ordinary, describing the strategy as a new method adopted by smugglers.
He assured that officers of the command would intensify routine checks across border areas and within the state to curb smuggling.
Aji also commended his officers for their dedication to duty and urged border communities to support the service in its anti-smuggling campaign.
