The incumbent Senator representing Bauchi North, Samaila Kaila, has lost his return bid to the National Assembly after suffering defeat in the All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) senatorial primary election.
Kaila, who originally won his Senate seat under the Peoples Democratic Party before defecting to the APC in 2025, was defeated during the party’s direct primaries.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Brigadier-General Saidu Abdulhameed (Rtd), declared Ibrahim Muhammad Baba as the winner of the Bauchi North senatorial ticket.
Baba secured a landslide victory with 22,744 votes, defeating Kaila, who polled 12,912 votes, while Sirajo Ibrahim Tanko came third with 5,202 votes.
In the Bauchi South senatorial primary, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi clinched the APC ticket after polling 25,762 votes in a five-man contest.
His closest rival, Brigadier-General Abubakar Suleiman Maikano (Rtd), scored 6,870 votes, while other contestants included Hon. Shehu Aliyu Dass (6,648 votes), Rt. Hon. Abdulmumini Kundak (4,975 votes), and Ibrahim Usman (4,922 votes).
In the Bauchi Federal Constituency primary, Jibrin Abdullahi Sirajo emerged winner with 13,190 votes after defeating four other aspirants.
Notably, Idris Isa Yuguda, son of former Bauchi State Governor, also lost his bid after coming a distant second with 4,053 votes.
Other contestants, Salisu Sabo, Bidi’atu Inuwa, and Muhammad Mustapha polled 1,410, 1,350, and 1,214 votes respectively.
The APC primaries in Bauchi were described as competitive, with several high-profile aspirants vying for senatorial and House of Representatives tickets ahead of the next general elections.
