Yobe state Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, has described the people of the state as true pillars of democracy for supporting government policies and programmes in the state.
In a statement by Mamman Mohammad DG press and media affairs to the governor said, The governor stated this in commemoration of the Democracy Day celebration in Nigeria.
He said the people’s support to government policies and programmes has no doubt strengthened democracy in the state.
The Governor noted that 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule in Nigeria has given the people a sense of participation and ownership of the government.
He explained that the appointment of youths as commissioners, Chief Executives of government agencies, Special Advisers, Special Assistants and Focal Persons has enhanced governance in the state.
“lt is gratifying that democracy has provided opportunity for the people to have their voices heard and participate in governance, and to own the government.
“In Yobe state, we have maintained an open door policy to give the people the opportunity to contribute to governance, and this has given the populace a true sense of belonging and ownership” he said.
Governor Buni said there is a prosperous future for the state and country with the active participation of youth in politics and engagement in governance.
He assured more dividends of democracy to improve the lives of the people, saying, all ongoing projects would be completed for government to have value for its money, and for the projects to be beneficial to the people.
The Governor called for more cooperation for democracy to thrive and improve good governance.
Buni urged the people to take advantage of the rainy season to embrace agriculture, support security agencies and promote the virtues of peaceful coexistence in the state.
