The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, has extended warm felicitations to healthcare workers and residents of the state in celebration of Nigeria’s Democracy Day, describing the occasion as a time for reflection and a renewed commitment to public service.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Dr. Yusuf congratulated the management and staff of the Ministry of Health, frontline medical professionals across the state, and the people of Kano, commending their contributions to strengthening democracy through dedication to duty and community well-being.
He said the annual commemoration of Democracy Day offers not just a chance to celebrate the nation’s democratic journey but also to appreciate the role of good governance in improving lives.
“Democracy remains central to promoting transparency, accountability, and equitable access to essential services, especially in the health sector,” the Commissioner said. “Through participatory governance, inclusive health policies have become more achievable and effective.”
Dr. Yusuf praised the resilience of healthcare workers who, he said, have remained unwavering in their duty, particularly in periods of national and global health emergencies.
“Our health professionals are the backbone of our public health system and a vital force behind every advancement we have recorded in service delivery,” he noted.
While highlighting the progress made in Kano’s health sector, Dr. Yusuf attributed improvements in health indicators to collaboration between government agencies, development partners, and frontline workers under democratic ideals.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare, strengthening medical infrastructure, and ensuring no community is left behind, in line with the state’s development agenda.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us also recommit to unity, peace, and active civic participation. Democracy is not just about elections—it’s about building systems and institutions that serve the people with dignity and fairness,” he added.
The Commissioner urged Kano citizens to take pride in their democratic rights and responsibilities, particularly in shaping policies that directly affect their lives.
Dr. Yusuf concluded by congratulating the government and people of Kano State, expressing optimism that the years ahead would witness even greater strides in the health sector and beyond.
“May this Democracy Day inspire hope, progress, and a stronger resolve to build a healthier and more inclusive society,” he said.
