Residents of Dutsen Bakoshi community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State have appealed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to intervene in the reconstruction of the community’s dilapidated access road, which they said has become a major obstacle to economic and social activities.
The appeal was made by the community’s spokesperson in the South-South, Alhaji Musa Balarabe Dutsen Bakoshi, during an interview with journalists in Calabar.
Balarabe lamented that the Dutsen Bakoshi road had deteriorated into what he described as a “trench,” noting that it becomes completely impassable during the rainy season, thereby cutting off the community from neighbouring towns.
“For over a decade, this road has suffered severe neglect. During the rainy season, it becomes unmotorable, making movement extremely difficult and negatively affecting economic activities in Shanono Local Government,” he said.
He added that erosion and rainfall had washed away large portions of the road, worsening transportation challenges and slowing commercial growth in the area.
According to him, residents often face serious difficulties accessing healthcare services, particularly when transporting sick persons to Shanono General Hospital.
“It is always painful trying to rush a sick person to the hospital because of the terrible state of the road. Despite communal efforts to manage the situation, the problem is beyond what the community can handle,” Balarabe said.
The community also called on the Senator representing Kano West, Senator Barau Jibrin, to intervene and attract federal or constituency projects to address the road’s condition.
Balarabe stressed that Dutsen Bakoshi remained economically viable and contributed significantly to the growth of Shanono Local Government and Kano State at large.
He expressed hope that the state government and relevant federal lawmakers would respond promptly to the community’s appeal and prioritise the road under ongoing and future infrastructure development plans.
