A police officer, DSP Mohammed Ladan, has supported 140 orphans with clothing to enable them celebrate the upcoming Sallah festival in Jakusko Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Speaking during the distribution, Ladan said the initiative was carried out with the support of Allah and the assistance of his wife, Hajiya Nadiya, who also contributed to the programme aimed at bringing joy to the children.
According to him, the gesture was not done in his capacity as a police officer but as a member of the community who felt compelled to assist vulnerable children, particularly orphans.
“I decided to do this so that the orphans can also feel happy and celebrate Sallah like other children whose parents are alive,” he said.
He added that the initiative would help reassure the children that they are valued members of the community and have not been forgotten.
Ladan therefore called on wealthy individuals and well-meaning members of society to support the less privileged, especially during festive periods.
He said such assistance would help reduce the suffering of vulnerable people and enable them to celebrate alongside others in the community.
The police officer disclosed that the support, which cost over N1.5m, benefited about 140 children.
According to him, 90 girls received wrappers and money to purchase clothing materials, while 50 boys were given yards of fabric which would be sewn for them by tailors.
The event was attended by several dignitaries from Jakusko town, including the Lawan of the town, the Chief Imam, and other community leaders.
They commended the police officer for the gesture, describing it as rare, particularly coming from a security officer serving the community as the Divisional Police Officer in Jakusko Local Government Area.
One of the beneficiaries, Auwal Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the police officer, saying the support came at a time when it was greatly needed.
Residents of Jakusko also praised the initiative and prayed for Allah to reward him abundantly for his kindness.
