From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Emir of Daura, His Royal Highness Umar Faruk Umar, has conferred the prestigious traditional title of Sadaukin Kasar Hausa on Katsina State Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Hamza Suleiman.
The grand turbanning ceremony, held at the Emir’s Palace in Daura, drew thousands of well-wishers, including political associates, supporters, admirers, friends, and family members of Alhaji Hamza Suleiman.
Dignitaries and well-wishers also came from neighboring states such as Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Kebbi to witness the event.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Emir said the Emirate Council deemed Hamza worthy of the honor due to his patriotic service to Katsina State during his two tenures as Commissioner for Environment.
The monarch praised Hamza Suleiman’s philanthropic efforts, which include supporting the poor and needy, assisting orphans and widows, empowering women and youths, and sponsoring the education of hundreds of children from underprivileged backgrounds.
“As Commissioner for Environment, his efforts enabled Katsina State to benefit from the World Bank-supported NEWMAP project, which executed projects worth billions of naira. Another World Bank project is currently ongoing,” the Emir said.
“These interventions have led to the construction of numerous drainages and culverts across the state, helping to mitigate recurring flood incidents.
“Additionally, several erosion control projects have been implemented, saving many communities and farmlands from gully erosion and other environmental hazards.
“Here in Daura, the establishment of shelter belts with economic trees has beautified the land and is protecting agricultural areas from desert encroachment.
“We are also aware of Hamza Suleiman’s immense contributions to the socio-economic welfare of our people — from awarding scholarships to students to supporting internally displaced persons and victims of banditry.
“This title is our way of appreciating his patriotic deeds, and we hope it will inspire him to continue serving the people,” the Emir added.
In his remarks, Alhaji Hamza Suleiman expressed gratitude to the Emir for the honor, pledging his continued loyalty to the Daura Emirate Council.
He explained that his philanthropic activities are aimed at easing the suffering of the less privileged and enhancing the education and welfare of children, women, youths, and displaced persons.
Hamza also dedicated the honor to the memory of his late parents, who, he said, instilled in him both Islamic and Western education, as well as strong moral values.
