A new National Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy and Action Plan has been launched to empower Nigerian women and boost economic growth.
The policy, which was launched in May 2023, aims to reduce gender inequality and increase women’s participation in the economy.
Yakubu Muhammad, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Kano State Ministry of Women, Children, and Disabled Communities, emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts from federal to local levels.
He highlighted the need for efficient resource allocation and policy alignment to achieve tangible results.
The policy’s focus on advocacy and its multi-sectoral approach are key to its success.
By addressing issues such as financial inclusion, agriculture, and procurement, the policy aims to empower women across various sectors.
Mrs. Fifemo Oshikonlu, founder and CEO of Eden Venture Group, stressed the importance of public awareness and advocacy in ensuring the policy’s successful implementation.
She emphasized the need to inform and educate individuals about the policy’s benefits and how they can contribute to its success.
The National Women’s Council, an annual event, plays a crucial role in shaping and implementing women’s empowerment policies.
It provides a platform for stakeholders to discuss issues, share experiences, and develop strategies to advance women’s rights and economic opportunities.
