The National Council on Social Development convened in Jos, Plateau State, on Monday.
The four-day event, organized by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, brought together Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and Directors from all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The council’s primary objective is to make critical decisions that impact the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs. Mrs. Friya Kimbe Bulus, Director of Women Development at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, highlighted the importance of the meeting in facilitating the approval of council memos related to women’s development and empowerment.
The 24th Regular National Council on Women Affairs is themed “Renewed Hope Agenda, Promoting Women Economic Empowerment, Health, Education, and Justice for Global Competitiveness and Relevance.”
The council aims to address issues such as gender equality and women’s participation in decision-making processes. Dr. Sa’adatu Saidu Bala,
Permanent Secretary of the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled, emphasized the significance of women’s empowerment in fostering family well-being.
She noted that empowering women leads to the empowerment of entire families and communities.
The council will also discuss the implementation of the women’s economic empowerment policy, which aims to enhance women’s participation in various sectors of the economy.
Caroline Panglang Dafur, Commissioner for Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs, expressed her delight at hosting the national council meeting.
She believes that the event will contribute to changing the negative perception of Plateau State as a crisis-prone region.
