In the early hours of Wednesday, a fire outbreak erupted in a 40ft container truck along a busy route in Zaria, causing considerable concern.
The truck, which was transporting goods from Ikeja, Lagos State, to Kano State, was fully engulfed in dense smoke when the distress call was received.
The fire quickly spread, threatening to cause extensive damage to both the vehicle and its contents.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but the fire’s intensity raised alarms among local residents and road users.
The Zaria Area Command of the Federal Fire Service responded swiftly to the scene. Led by Assistant Superintendent of Fire (ASF) Hasheem Sa’ed, the firefighters battled the blaze for approximately eight hours, using specialized equipment and techniques to prevent further damage.
The incident took place on a major highway, where traffic congestion posed additional challenges for the firefighting team.
Despite these obstacles, the team’s expertise ensured that the fire was eventually brought under control, saving the property and surrounding areas from more severe destruction.
Firefighting efforts were further bolstered by support from the Zaria Kofar Doka Fire Station, the Federal Road Safety Corps – Zaria Unit Command, and the Zaria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD).
Their combined efforts ensured the blaze was fully extinguished, with minimal damage to the surrounding environment.
The Federal Fire Service has also issued a public reminder, urging road users to equip their vehicles with fire extinguishers and familiarize themselves with their use to mitigate the impact of similar emergencies in the future.
