The Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Plateau State, Adelaja S. Ogungbemi, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to road safety and security.
He said that since assuming office, the command has adopted intelligence-led patrols and created a WhatsApp platform to keep stakeholders informed about road situations.
Ogungbemi made this known during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Chairman, Ayuku Pwaspo, and her executive in Jos.
He disclosed plans to expand operations, including establishing a unit command in Mangu, which is at an advanced stage, and another in a different community.
He added that the command currently operates about eight unit commands across the state.
The Corps Commander also highlighted efforts such as Zebra points with ambulances for quick response to accidents and the deployment of tow trucks in Jos and Akwanga to ease traffic.
He stressed that road safety is a collective responsibility and called for stronger collaboration with the media to enhance public awareness.
Responding, NUJ Chairman Ayuku Pwaspo commended the FRSC’s efforts and urged the command to address rising concerns such as child trafficking by ensuring officers remain vigilant during vehicle checks.
She also called for improved presence along Bauchi Road, especially the Bukuru axis, and cautioned against prolonged traffic hold-ups due to security risks.
Pwaspo assured the FRSC of the union’s continued support and partnership to promote public safety and responsible information dissemination.
