The Managing Director of Gerawa Group of Companies, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad Gerawa, has commended Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for creating a peaceful and business-friendly environment that has enhanced economic activities across the state.
Speaking during an interview, Dr. Gerawa praised the governor’s approach to governance and politics, describing it as instrumental in fostering stability and encouraging private sector growth.
According to him, the conducive atmosphere created by the administration has enabled businesses to expand their operations and contribute significantly to the state’s economy.
“In just a few years, our company has become one of the first to respond to government initiatives, working closely with state authorities to expand our business activities,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between government and the private sector, noting that Gerawa Group currently operates in more than seven locations across Kano State.
He expressed confidence that such partnerships would continue to drive sustainable economic development.
On the cost of essential commodities, Dr. Gerawa stated that prices of major food items, particularly rice, have remained relatively stable despite prevailing global economic challenges.
He assured consumers that the company remains committed to maintaining fair prices while ensuring the welfare of its workforce.
“No employee earns less than N70,000 monthly, even before considering additional government-approved benefits,” he stated.
The business leader also highlighted the difficulties facing farmers, especially those who cultivated crops in recent years, noting that profit margins remain low despite significant investments.
He called on the Kano State Government and other Northern state governors to collaborate in providing affordable agricultural inputs and other forms of support to farmers to enhance productivity and improve livelihoods.
“Such an approach will empower communities to become more self-reliant and resilient,” he said.
Dr. Gerawa reiterated the company’s commitment to social responsibility, stressing that its operations are aimed not only at making profits but also at ensuring that essential products, particularly rice, remain accessible to the public.
He further urged political leaders and stakeholders to unite in addressing economic challenges and improving the welfare of citizens.
“When leaders work together, it becomes easier to ensure that no one is left behind,” he added.
Dr. Gerawa noted that Gerawa Group, which began as an oil trading company, has diversified into several sectors, including road construction, rice production, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
He also identified multiple challenges confronting private businesses, including high taxation, inadequate power supply, and complex regulatory procedures, urging authorities to address these issues to encourage entrepreneurship and stimulate economic growth in Kano State.
