From Joseph Adahnu, Yola
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved N19.7bn for the construction of the Jimeta Modern Shopping Complex in Yola North Local Government.
It would be recalled that the market was built before 1984 but was destroyed by the Maitatsine riot and reconstructed and built-in 1996.
The demolished market by the present government in 2024 is to give way for the construction of a new, befitting modern structure to boost the state’s economy.
The Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr Iliya James disclosed this during the resolution of the government to newsmen after the council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Mr James said the contract for the project was awarded to three contractors and will be completed within the contractual agreement of twenty months.
The Commissioner of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Dr Ishaya Dabari, said the new market will comprise shops, fire service, police station and administrative buildings, among others.
The construction has commenced with drainages now ongoing in the state capital.
