From Ahmad Ibrahim, Gusau
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Friday launched the state’s 10-Year Development Plan (2025–2034), describing it as a long-term, evidence-based roadmap designed to reflect the aspirations of the people and reposition the state for sustainable growth.
The plan was unveiled at the JB Yakubu Secretariat in Gusau.
Lawal said the document represents the first comprehensive long-term development framework in Zamfara’s recent history, noting that it was developed through extensive data analysis and broad stakeholder engagement.
According to him, the state government engaged KPMG Advisory as lead consultant, working closely with members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders over an eight-month period.
“The development plan is built on robust data, wide stakeholder engagement and alignment with national and global frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals, Nigeria’s National Development Plan 2050 and the African Union Agenda 2063,” the governor said.
He explained that the plan outlines clear sectoral priorities, measurable outcomes and a monitoring and evaluation framework aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in implementation.
Lawal said the plan envisions Zamfara as a benchmark for transformative economic growth in Nigeria and across Africa, driven by innovation, effective governance and inclusive development.
The governor added that the plan is anchored on six pillars: economy, infrastructure, social welfare, human capital development, governance and environmental sustainability.
He noted that Zamfara’s agricultural and natural resource potential would be maximised through strategic partnerships, including the Ministry of Finance Incorporated agreement and funding support from the African Development Bank.
According to him, these initiatives are expected to boost mechanised farming, agro-processing and value chains, create jobs, improve food security and reduce poverty-driven insecurity.
“With this development plan, we are not merely dreaming; we are preparing to deliver. We are redefining the future of our state and rekindling hope for the young, dignity for the vulnerable and opportunity for the enterprising,” Lawal said.
Earlier, remarks were delivered by the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Abubakar Nakwada; the Chief of Staff, Mukhtar Lugga; and the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam.
