Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to implementing judicial reforms aimed at promoting civility and improving the administration of criminal justice in the state.
Governor Mutfwang made this statement during a courtesy visit by officials and stakeholders from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Jos Branch, at the Old Government House in Jos. During the meeting, the Governor acknowledged the challenges facing the state’s criminal justice system, particularly the congestion in correctional facilities. He assured that the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice would soon unveil strategic plans to address these issues and strengthen the justice system.
The Governor also congratulated Barr. Leah Dagun Hassan on her election as the newly appointed Chairman of the NBA, Jos Branch. He pledged his administration’s collaboration with the NBA in efforts to restore justice, fairness, and sanity within the state.
In her response, Barr. Leah Dagun Hassan expressed gratitude for the Governor’s continued support of the NBA, particularly in his infrastructural development initiatives and policies designed to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal. She emphasized the NBA’s commitment to working alongside the state government to create a conducive environment for business and development in Plateau.
In another development, Governor Mutfwang hosted the Executive Council Members of the Nigeria Fellowship of Evangelical Students (NIFES), where he praised the organization’s role in raising and mentoring leaders who contribute positively to both the church and society. The Governor commended NIFES for its efforts in combating societal challenges such as drug abuse and the spread of HIV/AIDS among youth. He emphasized the need for increased awareness and education campaigns, alongside the potential launch of a government-backed drug rehabilitation initiative.
“I recognize your efforts in shaping young minds and addressing youth-related challenges. These are areas we are deeply passionate about as a government, and we are committed to finding lasting solutions,” Governor Mutfwang remarked.
Pastor Rex Onuh, National Director of NIFES, lauded Governor Mutfwang’s public service dedication, noting that the Governor’s principles align with NIFES’ mission to promote good governance and societal progress through biblical values.
Additionally, Governor Mutfwang attended the “Enchanting Plateau” exhibition, an event showcasing Plateau State’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. The exhibition featured artworks highlighting the state’s potential as a global tourism destination. The Governor expressed his excitement at the event and urged the younger generation to help reshape the narrative of Plateau State, positioning it as a beacon of peace, tourism, and progress.
“I am thrilled to be part of the Enchanting Plateau exhibition, which celebrates our cultural heritage and natural beauty. Plateau State is a treasure to be cherished, promoted, and shared with the world. Let us rise above bitterness and work together to make Plateau a place of peace and progress,” Governor Mutfwang stated.
The General Manager of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation, Mr. Chuwang Pwajok, welcomed dignitaries to the event and highlighted the exhibition’s goal of showcasing the state’s tourism potential to a global audience.
Governor Mutfwang’s recent engagements reflect his administration’s focus on promoting justice, youth empowerment, and tourism as key pillars for the sustainable development of Plateau State.
