Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has proposed a total budget of N1,368,127,929,271.00 for the 2026 fiscal year before the Kano State House of Assembly.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The 2026 proposed budget, themed “Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth, and Sustainable Development,” allocates 68 percent to capital expenditure and 32 percent to recurrent expenditure.
While presenting the budget on the floor of the House, Governor Yusuf listed education, health, and infrastructure as the major priorities of the 2026 fiscal proposal. Education takes the largest share with 30% (₦405bn), followed by health with 16% (₦212bn) and infrastructure with 25% (₦346bn).
Governor Yusuf said the allocations reflect a clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to human capital development and the overall well-being of the people, noting that other critical sectors have also been given due consideration.
He emphasised that the budget is “not just a fiscal document, but a covenant — a commitment to consolidate gains, complete key projects, and build lasting systems that will serve generations to come.”
The Governor further explained that the proposal is “bold but grounded, aspirational yet realistic,” capturing the administration’s ambition to transform Kano into a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous state.
Responding after receiving the document, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Isma’il Jibril Falgore, assured the House’s commitment to the speedy passage of the 2026 budget.
He urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to prepare adequately for the defence of their respective allocations.
Rt. Hon. Falgore also highlighted the Assembly’s achievements in the last one year and reaffirmed its continued cooperation with the executive arm in the collective pursuit of rapid development for Kano State.
