Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has signed three new bills into law, marking a significant step toward improving public health, security, and transportation in the state.
Among the newly enacted laws is the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Law, 2025, which establishes a dedicated agency to enhance the state’s disease surveillance, prevention, and response capabilities.
The law is expected to strengthen Kano’s healthcare system by addressing public health emergencies, coordinating disease control efforts, and improving research and data collection on infectious diseases.
Governor Yusuf assented to the bills at the commencement of the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House.
A statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, emphasized the administration’s commitment to policies that improve the well-being of Kano residents.
The other two laws signed include the Kano State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (Amendment) Law, 2025, aimed at enhancing urban transportation management, and the Kano State Security Neighborhood Watch Law, 2025, which seeks to bolster community-based security initiatives.
Speaking at the signing, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to delivering the dividends of democracy, ensuring socioeconomic development, and fostering policies that uplift citizens’ lives.
He also expressed gratitude for the support of Kano residents and urged them to continue collaborating with the government to achieve shared goals.
