From Joseph Asegba, Yola
The Adamawa State Government has issued a stern warning to political office holders and appointed officials who recently defected to other political parties, directing them to resign within 24 hours or face immediate dismissal and the loss of all benefits attached to their offices.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, in Yola.
The government said the decision comes amid growing concerns over political loyalty, accountability, and discipline within government institutions.
According to the statement, political appointees who have switched allegiance to opposition parties are being reminded of the ethical and political implications of retaining positions in an administration they no longer support.
Sources familiar with the development said the move is aimed at maintaining discipline within government and ensuring that political office holders remain committed to the mandate under which they were appointed.
The statement further warned that failure to comply with the directive would attract strict administrative sanctions, including immediate termination of appointments and the forfeiture of all entitlements and benefits associated with their offices.
Observers believe the development could have significant implications for the political landscape in Adamawa State, especially as political realignments continue ahead of future elections.
Stakeholders have called for calm and urged all affected parties to adhere to due process as the situation unfolds.
