In a significant move to improve the welfare of workers, the Kano State Government has approved a new minimum wage of N71,000.
The new wage, which takes effect from November 2024, will lead to a substantial increase in the state’s monthly salary obligations.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made the announcement, stating that the decision aligns with the government’s commitment to social justice and improving the standard of living for workers in the state.
The implementation of the new minimum wage is expected to cost the state government an additional N6 billion per month, while local government councils will incur an additional N7 billion.
Furthermore, the government has recently promoted 20,737 teachers, resulting in a salary increment of over N340 million.
Governor Yusuf commended the State Minimum Wage Implementation Committee for their diligent work in determining the new wage.
