Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Tuesday launched the first phase of the state’s youth empowerment programme with the disbursement of ₦800.7m to over 5,000 beneficiaries.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, a total of 5,384 young men and women each received ₦150,000 to support their businesses and entrepreneurial ventures.
Speaking at the ceremony, Yusuf said the initiative was part of his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of young people and helping them become active contributors to the state’s economy.
“This programme is designed to support our youths to start and expand businesses, contribute meaningfully to the economy, and secure a better future for themselves,” the governor said.
He urged the beneficiaries to judiciously use the funds, adding that the scheme was a stepping stone to sustainable livelihoods across the state.
The governor also appealed for patience from those yet to benefit, assuring them that the second tranche of the programme would be released soon.
“Our administration will continue to prioritise policies and programmes that empower young people and create opportunities for prosperity in Kano,” he added.
