The Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has laid the foundation for the construction of a mega secondary school at Kaura Goge in Nasarawa Local Government Area.
The new school, when completed, will replace the well-known Maikwatashi School, which had become dilapidated, encroached upon, and partly sold off fraudulently by unscrupulous individuals.
This development prompted the people’s governor to intervene and promise the construction of a new school to replace Maikwatashi.
Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf also revealed that ownership of the Maikwatashi School has been handed over to the Kano State College of Arts and Islamic Studies (CAS) for proper utilization for educational purposes.
This was contained in a press release issued by Mustapha Muhammad, Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor.
In his remarks, Governor Abba stated that the construction of the school would ease the hardship faced by students in the area, many of whom currently travel long distances, including to Sabon Gari, to access education.
“There is a huge number of students in this area who have to go to Sabon Gari for schooling. That is why we are determined to build a school here,” he said.
The Governor urged residents of the area to cooperate with the contractor and warned the contractor to ensure quality work.
Earlier in his address, the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Goni Ali Haruna Makoda, disclosed that the project would cost ₦1.3 billion.
He added that the school would comprise 32 classrooms, 36 toilets, four libraries, among other facilities.
Ali Makoda described the foundation-laying ceremony as a clear demonstration of “promise made, promise kept” by the people’s governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
