The Kano State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Muhammad Tajo Othman has said Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf administration has redefined grassroots governance through massive investments in local government development, infrastructure, Security, Education and Social Welfare programmes across the state.
Speaking during an interview, Othman said the governor commitment to empowering local governments has brought governance closer to the people and ensured that development projects reflect the actual needs of communities.
According to him, the administration’s development strategy begins with direct engagement with local councils and community stakeholders to identify priority projects before implementation.
“We work closely with local government authorities to determine the needs of the people. This has enabled the government to execute projects that have direct impact on communities,” he said.
The commissioner disclosed that under Governor Yusuf’s leadership, local government secretariats have undergone significant renovation and modernization, while administrative structures have been strengthened to improve service delivery at the grassroots level.
He noted that the administration has also invested heavily in rural road construction, opening up communities and connecting residents to markets, schools and healthcare facilities.
Othman said the construction of roads equipped with streetlights in several local government areas has not only improved transportation but has also enhanced security and boosted economic activities.
“The governor believes development should reach every community. That is why rural infrastructure has remained a priority of his administration,” he stated.
The commissioner further praised Governor Yusuf for promoting inclusive governance through the settlement of outstanding entitlements owed to councillors and pensioners, irrespective of political affiliations.
According to him, the governor’s decision to prioritize workers’ welfare and pension payments has restored confidence in government and improved the living conditions of thousands of families.
He added that interventions in education, including the provision of furniture, instructional materials and support for teachers, have contributed significantly to improving learning conditions in public schools.
Othman also highlighted ongoing efforts to expand access to healthcare services through collaboration between the state government and local councils, ensuring that health facilities are upgraded and personnel receive their salaries and allowances regularly.
On security, the commissioner described the Kano State Neighbourhood Security Corps as one of the administration’s most impactful initiatives, noting that officers recruited from all local government areas have strengthened intelligence gathering and community policing efforts.
He also commended the government’s investment in digital technology and human capital development through the introduction of ICT and Computer-Based Testing centres across the state.
The commissioner said the initiative is preparing young people for a technology-driven future while enhancing the quality and credibility of examinations.
He maintained that Governor Yusuf’ administration has earned the trust and confidence of residents because of its visible achievements and commitment to equitable development.
“The governor’s projects are not designed for any particular group or political party. Every resident of Kano is benefiting from the dividends of democracy being delivered by this administration,” Othman said.
He called on citizens to support the government’s development programmes and actively participate in future elections by obtaining their voter cards and exercising their constitutional rights.
According to him, the growing public support for Governor Yusuf is a reflection of the administration success in delivering meaningful development to communities across Kano State.
