From Maawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
A Katsina-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Gwagware Foundation, has disbursed cash assistance to 3,000 women and youth to set up a business.
The beneficiaries were drawn from Maidua and Katsina local government areas.
Our correspondent reports that the beneficiaries include 1,000 women and 2,000 youth.
Speaking while disbursing the money, the Chairman of the Foundation, Yusuf Ali Musawa, called on beneficiaries to make good use of the assistance.
Musawa said the disbursement of the cash assistance was part of the foundation’s effort to address the unemployment problem.
He recalled that within the last eight years, the foundation made interventions in the areas of health, water supply, and assistance to the needy and vulnerable, among others.
Earlier, a member of the foundation, Binta Dangani commended the initiative, noting that the move will minimise hardship among the beneficiaries.
Dangani, who is the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, called on the beneficiaries, especially women, to utilise the assistance to set up petty businesses.
