The government said to be allocated a truckload of fertilizer was looted by some youths in Demsa, Demsa local government area of Adamawa State.
This, according to Daily Struggle newspapers, occurred at the palace of the paramount traditional ruler, Hama Bata Alhamdu Teneke.
The looting accordingly reportedly happened due to a lack of proper storage facilities in the local government area. The truck, which was being transported to the king’s palace for safekeeping, fell into a drain. As it became stuck, youths in the area began the looting of the products.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the council, Akam Samda Jallo, criticized the vendor for not informing him of their journey to deliver the fertilizer to the Hama Bata’s palace and noted that the vendor, responsible for the distribution of fertilizer in Yola, should have awaited his go-ahead before commencing the trip to Demsa.
The Council Chairman further revealed that they have identified a prime suspect who allegedly incited the youths to loot the fertilizer, which was intended for distribution to local farmers during the rainy season.
He denied rumours that the looters were connected to the #EndBadGovernance protesters, clarifying that the theft was orchestrated by the unnamed suspect.
Explained further, the Chairman said, the truck became stuck and eventually fell due to the poor condition of the road, creating an opportunity for some youths in Demsa to loot the fertilizer.
Security source outfit confirmed that several youths have been arrested in connection with the looting and are accused of distributing the stolen fertilizer.
