Following last week Saturday Edo state governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the declaration of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as a party winner with a total of 291,667 votes against the People Democratic Party (PDP) with 247, 274 votes, the Commission on Thursday presented certificate of return to the newly elected governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo and his deputy, Hon. Denise Idahosa.
Presenting the certificate of return on behalf of the INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, the INEC National Commissioner, Professor Rhoda Gumus, who also oversaw the electionn, expressed her satisfaction and happiness with the whole of the electoral process.
She observed that there was a peaceful conduct of the election and a smooth transition of the leadership, which she said is an indication that Nigeria is democratic and growing mature.
Briefing newsmen shortly after receiving a certificate of return, the Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, expressed his gratitude to God, the Edo people and his party, APC.
According to him, his victory in the last week Saturday belonged to the people of the state and he pledged to serve his people with integrity and assured to focus on the development that will benefit everyone.
He further assured of the unity, peace and the progress of the state.
